A Time For Transition

kristenSuccessful transitions are beautiful things. One could argue transitions are essential to living a full and purposeful life. Without major changes, especially difficult ones, how would we grow? How else could we discover who we really are and what the “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” thing God writes of in Jeremiah 29:11 is all about?

Helping trafficking survivors discover that hope and launch them into brighter futures is why I established Kwagala Project nearly eight years ago. Transition was and still is the point. Girls and young women come to the center hopeless and broken. Our job is to help change that. There are various milestones and growth patterns we encourage and expect. Over time, trust is established. Confidence is built, and through our staff’s outpouring of love, grace, discipline, and instruction, the girls begin to see themselves differently. They see life differently. They become ready for new things.

Because there’s a whole slew of biblical principles being lived out every day at Kwagala Project, it stands to reason that each one of us—from the newest beneficiary to the founding executive director—would be affected. We should all be prepared to transition, to further realize our hope in Christ and the future to which He has uniquely called each of us to live out.

Easier said than done, for sure; both for the girls and for myself. I’d be lying if I said this transition hasn’t brought with it considerable sadness, some fear, a few regrets, and the occasional doubt or two. But those are emotions, and if anything has been proven time and time again at Kwagala Project, it’s that truth trumps emotion every time. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of sound mind” 2 Timothy 1:7. That is truth, and one of the many promises I profess as I hand this role over to Kelsey Galaway, another woman whom God has called to do a new thing.

As we all know, there is a season for everything, and my season as Kwagala’s executive director has come to a close. I know because there are various milestones and growth patterns God encourages and expects. Over time, trust has been established. Confidence has been built, and through His outpouring of love, grace, discipline, and instruction, I now see myself differently. I see life differently. I have been called to do something new. And I am excited to step into this new season and discover the next step of His plan for me, and for Kelsey, and for Kwagala Project.
